Blown film production is complex, but finding the perfect gauge doesn’t have to be.img_01112016_083735

Let’s think about blown film measurement. If you produce large quantities of plastic film, you no doubt have your tried-and-true methods to measure blown film. Every gauging system has its drawbacks, however, and sometimes the old ways just aren’t the best.

Plastics production is an industry based on precision, diligence, and thoroughness. From the moment a film product is cast or blown or extruded, to the moment it is delivered, ensuring its consistency in quality is paramount.

The goal for plastics manufacturers, in terms of quality, is mainly to know exactly how each machine works, in order to streamline efficiency and consistency. The reliability and accuracy in the methods by which you measure blown film, then, are of utmost importance.

So what does that mean for you?

Simply put, you deserve measurement and gauging systems that will always have your back! You need systems that provide absolute measurements, are high in accuracy, and are easy to install and use. SolveTech, Inc. is a leader in the world of such gauging systems, and we have a system to match your unique gauging needs.

How can I Measure Blown Film while Being Economically and Environmentally Conscious?

We’re so glad you asked! The blown film production process is a complex one, but the gauging needs can be pared down to mostly two conditions: on-the-bubble, or after the lay flat.

On the Bubble:

Traditionally speaking, blown film measurement is done on the bubble, measuring film thickness as the film is being produced. Typical systems use a capacitance based technology that is a bit different than that of SolveTech’s systems.

Some difficulties with the on-the-bubble method have been part of what inspired us to consider a different approach. The density of the bubble was not always known precisely, the dimensions of the bubble have to be taken into account, and the gauges don’t always hold calibration.

After the Lay Flat

SolveTech’s BF200 Blown Film Gauge was designed to perform the same tasks as the on-the-bubble gauges, but not until the bubble has been collapsed into a thin film. The BF200 spot measures blown film along one or both edges of the material, promising a much simpler and more consistent measurement process.

In addition, the BF200 uses our proprietary non-contact gauging technology. The gauge is completely non-invasive, scrap is tremendously reduced, and the system is very user-friendly to install and operate.

If you would like more information on the BF200, or our wide array of other products, please contact us at 302-798-5400, email us at info@gauging.com, or visit our website! We have the gauging solutions you need, and will gladly work with you to curate the perfect system!
